we are simply in a cycle strong or weak
panic just is
there is no reson for it
no cure
just meds
and people to talk with
people like us should do a lot more talking
and not pedastilize our doctors
who basically know less than we do about our own pysiology
doctors need to learn to listen to us
and to understand that our meds may have to be changed every
once in awhile or even more.... whatever it takes
all we want is to feel normal
not even better...
just normal
i am sane and my meds are not interfering with my cognitive
processes ....not yet anyways.... and if it does ....at least
i will have lived a life of some quality rather than a
life of sadness and lonliness .... health is far more
important than time...
i will do anything to stay away from panic and agoraphobia
..now if we can only make our healthcare givers to
understand this
metaphor.... if a doctor has never suffered from back pain
how can he tell us what we are going thru?
..... panic disorder is a mental dis-ease.... ...how can a doctor
tell us anything about panic?.... we have all read what
it's all about ...but very few of the population
especially the medical population have suffered from panic.....
how can they tell us???
it is a cycle a flight fright cycle...it comes from no where
and leaves us feeling like we have just died..... how can
we possibly explai this to anyone who has not suffered
from it?
so be brave and let 'them' know ... that we are
real.... we are not crazy......

There are quite a few doctors especially general practitioners who don't
understand panic, anxiety and agoraphobia. But there are also many
psychiatrists and psychologists who specialise in anxiety who do understand
it or at least recognise these conditions.
There are also doctors who suffer from anxiety related illness themselves.

The rate of anxiety disorders is rising. I think in Australia it's at about
10% so more and more people are suffering, perhaps many of them in silence.
Not all specialist doctors need to suffer a condition to help people learn
to manage it. This applies to all mental health conditions. Yes it's
frustrating when a doctor doesn't have a clue but doctors are getting better
at recognising panic disorders... there is still a long way to go but there
has been a huge improvement based on my experience.

My psychiatrist did understand and even explained some of my
depersonalisation episodes better than I could.

I agree and it saddens me to think your doctors would label you this way.
Again it would more likely be a generalist doctor who has not specialised in
anxiety disorders.
I also agree that you need to let doctors know what meds aren't working and
what you'd like to try. YES we often do know more than our doctors and if
you lucky enough you might find a great psychiatrist like mine who really
did understand and did help me manage my condition.

Also for me it was about 25 years ago that I had my first panic attack and
at first the doctor thought I was attention seeking. I WAS later diagnosed
with epilepsy and treated for it for about 2 years. I actually got better
because the medication side effects helped my anxiety LOL. It took another 4
years before I was properly diagnosed by which time I had full blown
agoraphobia and yet not housebound... my parents forced me to keep going out
of the house so I had to find strategies to cope outside the home.

All is well with me now, well most days anyway :)
