Does anybody understand what these susceptibility results mean for an
enterococcus UTI?

(reported in MICs)

Cipro S=1
Levofloxavin S<=1
Nitrofurantoin S<=32
Penicillin S=2
Vancomycin S<=0.5

The S indicates that the bug is sensitive, the numbers represent MIC's
don't pay attention to the MIC number, it's over your head if you have
to ask.

Since your bug is sensitive to all the antibiotics (there is an S for
each), it means you could use any of them. Talk to your doctor about
getting your favorite one prescribed. Do it today. Having UTI's for a
long period of time can have all sorts of permanent effects.

Once you have your prescription filled, follow the instructions to the
letter. If it says three times a day for four weeks, take all 84 pills
on somewhat equal spacing. Make sure you finish the whole run, as if you
don't, some of those S's will probably disappear.

If your doctor seems incompetent, go to a urologist, some infections are
complicated, and may need expert attention.

and most of all, don't seek medical advice on newsgroups, no one here
can make convincing claims to be a doctor, and anything you read could
be lies, damn lies.

TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR!

if you don't have the cash to see a specialist, discuss your
prescription with your pharmacist. Where I come from they are usually
more than happy to have an in depth chat for free.
