From: Loretta Eisenberg on 13 Oct 2008 15:04 I am very confused today. I woke this morning with a bg of 87, perfect. For breakfast I had two waffles with low carb peanut butter and sugar free jelly. At two hours I was 97. Before lunch I tested and I was 119. that was two hours after the 97. what is going on. Since I am on byetta breakfast is not a problem meal for me. and neither is dinner, It is lunch I have to watch. no wonder I am scatching my head Loretta

My endo wants me to *start* testing at 2 hours post prandial. I doubt I could get away with waffles even with Byetta. I wonder if you spiked at 3 hours pp and were just coming down from the spike to hit the 119 at 4 hours pp. PP, T2, Byetta
From: Loretta Eisenberg on 13 Oct 2008 17:10 I believe Peppermint that the spike was 119 at three hours or maybe four. I am thinking another theory, that perhaps, after the 94 that I was going low and then had dp. does dawn phenomenon have to just be when a person wakes up. Loretta

Such a spike at other times is not known as dawn phenomemon; it is known as a liver dump. http://www.diabetic-talk.org/dp.htm

OTOH, if you have abnormally high episodic cortisol spikes, those can raise your bg, too. Cortisol is the hormone that causes DP. Or it could be what Priscilla said. Susan
