From: M N on 20 Dec 2006 17:40 a dysplastic hip means that the socket or acetabulum has not fully developed and therefore shallow. a shallow hip, is predispose to develop degenerative arthritis since the wt. of the person is concentrated in a limited area in the hip joints. in a young child, this is corrected by reconstructing the socket but if arthritis has set in in adults, hip replacement surgery might be indicated with bone graft to deepen the socket. your orthopedist can give you a definite anwer.
