Your brain is rotting from the inside out.

If it is working well for you, then I know of no reasons why you should be concerned about long-term use. For more details, see http://products.sanofi-aventis.us/ambien/ambien.pdf . -- Nom dePlume, Ph.D. Why, yes, in fact, I am a rocket scientist. For more details, see >http://products.sanofi-aventis.us/ambien/ambien.pdf . it's extremely habit forming, and extremely difficult to get off of without extreme insomnia. You don't get normal REM sleep on it either. It will knock you out all right, but very commonly will only sleep a few hours and wake up in the middle of the night unable to go back to sleep. I went for about 3-4 years on the stuff, never getting more than a few hours of dreamless sleep. The lack of normal restorative sleep took a severe toll and I got extremely depressed and suicidal. My general practice doc (could not find a decent Pdoc) took me off the stuff and put me on Remeron (mirtazapine) which immediately restored my normal sleep pattern. I went from no dreaming to dreaming the most detailed and vivid dreams I've ever had in my life. I actually look forward to going to sleep at night because I am looking forward to another very entertaining dream. On Zolpidem I used to dread night time because I knew all I could look forward to was getting knocked out for a few hours then waking up in the middle of the night unable to sleep. whatever you do, if you start experiencing waking up after only a few hours of sleep, do NOT start taking another Zolpidem to go back to sleep. Go see your doctor and discuss alternatives. just my experiences with the stuff.... Hal

Actor Jack Nicholson told reporters in London that he almost drove off a cliff once while under the influence of Ambien. "I took Ambien (Stilnox) once. I fell asleep and then got a call and almost drove off a cliff 50 yards from my house," he told reporters on the red carpet. http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2008/01/24/1201025041725.html?s_rid=smh:top5
