From: Rick on 25 Aug 2008 13:17 I have a 95 Bruno Curb-Sider in my 2002 Dodge Caravan. I'm think of move it to the passenger's door on the driver's side because I now using a walker and it sucks. The dealer's technician thinks it can be done but it will be a try it process. Has anyone had experience doing this? Also the hoist motor is losing power, it's even have trouble lifting my GoGo. Could this be the brushes and commentator in the motor? If so, has anyone opened one up? Rick

No. But from my experience nothing like this (moving a ramp? to a different door) ever goes simply! As long as your guy has a brain and can cut, weld etc anythings possible. But you better measure carefully if its a Dodge Caravan and it IS a ramp you are talking about. The reason is that the left door on a Left Hand Drive one is several inches narrower than the right. And since the complete van is a mirror image then the opposite is true of UK right hand drive ones. Thats why the ramp is always opposite side to the driver seat. > > Also the hoist motor is losing power, it's even have trouble lifting > my GoGo. Whats a "GoGo"??? If the brushes are really buggered they dont start or run intermittently. If the thing really is weak then having a Commentator in the motor wont help either! It will just embarrass the poor thing further. However the Commutator may be burned and or more likely the windings on one section failed, in which case it probably means a new motor as rewinds are hard to get done and usually labour intensive and expensive. > > Rick

If your door is a slider and is wide enough to take the swing of the lift, I would go for it. As for the motor, I would look to the gear housing and a binding there or a lack of grease. The GoGo is not that heavy and I don't think you are straining the lift. A friend of mine had a curb sider and lifted a full size Rascal Scooter with it. Keep in mind that with the configuration you are looking at, that you won't be able to parallel park anymore for obvious safety reasons. A few month's ago I was at the People in Motion show here in Toronto and saw a guy with a home brew solution to assist in getting from the back of his van to the drivers seat. He installed several bathroom grab bars on the outside of his van below the window level. He bought the white enameled ones and painted them the same colour as the van. Bruno don't have any info on your model on their site, but the current version of the curb sider says available for either side. http://www.bruno.com/vsl-6000.html If the tech you are talking about is of a Bruno dealer and not an auto dealer, then I would tend to take his advice. Good luck with this Regards Lee in Toronto
