From: Elaine on 21 Mar 2005 21:18 I started Actinel last week and had terrible side effects. Now Dr. is suggesting Evista which can give you blood clots. Anyone know how common it would be to get blood clots? Elaine

They usually talk about frequency of side effects from the clinical trials. What kinds of side effects did you have? There are certain side effects that are to be expected depending upon your level of osteoporosis ... especially when you first start taking the drug. You may not have any better luck with Evista. From: Elaine on 23 Mar 2005 11:16 On Actinel I has abdominal pains, excess gas/indigestion, headache, and the worst was the muscle spasms in my back that sent me to the ER. The literature said back pain was a side effect but ER Dr. confirmed that muscle spasms are also a side effect. From: Larry on 23 Mar 2005 15:33 Elaine, I think you are going to find that any drug in this class has potential side effects. Give Evista a try. But I think you may find the pain/spasms may get lesser and lesser as you take more and more dosages of the drug (in either case). You might want to try Actinel a couple more times to see if that's the case. Larry E. Maybe even try Fosamax. I think it's the same type (class) as Actonel, but sometimes a slightly different med will work when the first one doesn't. bj "Larry" <larry(a)nospam.net> wrote in message news:Hok0e.1604$704.1092(a)fe12.lga... > Elaine, > > I think you are going to find that any drug in this class has potential > side effects.
