From: nnsmth46 on 13 Jun 2008 06:26 hi i have just found this group and i would like to ask a question. hope somebody can give me an answer i didnt suffer with a thyroid condition, however, i do have fibromyalgia/me/cfs and get extreme levels of tiredness and depression as a resultof my health condition. i attend a psychiatrist for depression and last year he put me on liothyronine sodium 2mcg tabs to see if it would combat the tiredness. i have to honestly say that i have found no change in my energy levels. on the day i handed in the prescription to the pharmacist she said something to me about my thyroid not working. so i told her that my thyroid does work and the reason why i was given the prescription was because of my energy levels. she then said to me, when you start taking this medicaiton you thyroid will stop functioning on its own. i have been taken the medication and i feel no different but lately i feel like i have an irritation in my throat. it is like a hair or bone is stuck. i dont know if it is as a result of this medication. can somebody else me, if they know, what would be the result if i stopped taking liothyronine sodium? i hope somebody can advise me, i would really appreciate it. many thanks galwaygirl

Someone I know was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and took full replacement dose of thyroid hormone for several years. However, she moved country and ran out of pills, so didn't take any for a while. When she then saw a doctor and got a blood test, it was found that she no longer needed medication. It's been a few years now since she stopped taking thyroid medication and her thyroid is still working. There is a possibility that the problem you are experiencing with your throat could be because you have too much thyroid hormone in your system. I know that I can get throat oddities when my medication level is too high. Have you tried not taking the thyroid medication for a couple of days to see if it improves the throat problem at all?
