From: the loner on 3 Feb 2006 21:40 I've been a severe agoraphobic for 10 years & have worked at home. I unexpectedly got laid off, disability benefits have been denied, unenployment benefits are almost gone. Can anyone give me an idea of what kind of at home jobs are out there and how you find them? i live in a very small town in the mountains, and there are no jobs for anyone, let alone at home jobs I'm very scared and I don't know what to do. Thanks for any help loner
From: Jessica Marie on 12 Feb 2006 17:39 Hi Loner....... Sounds like you're in a pretty "out of the way" town, just for GI, is there a Dept. of Vocational Rehabilitation in your town? If you can get any physical and/or psychiatric Dx on paper by your PsyDoc, they have training programs they can put you in. I don't know what state your from, but around here the general Job Service office could probably give you something to chew on.....Otherwise, lord knows that the web has a lot of "Work at Home Moms" opportunity. You can get one working out of your home thru E Bay....I just got offered a position around a month ago. I turned it down b/c it requires telephone work & basic math skills -- which of have neither. WalMart stores around the country also offer programs from time to time, working at home. (Also another phone/math skills) In the meanwhile, I'll keep looking around for the sake of all of us........hang tight, Loner......you're not alone anymore! Daisyweaver/Jessica Marie

I Googled "work at home" and there do seem to be a lot of phone jobs. However the phone is part of my fear. There was a data entry job which could be ok, but it was filled I'm afraid I won't get on disability because I'm only on meds, no therapy, but I was in the hospital 1 1/2 years ago for severe panic reaction. I only see a doctor once a year, so I don't have much documentation for the Disability Program. I really appreciate that you answered and offered your ideas--I too will continue to look, and thank you for looking too I'd welcome ideas from anyone who has been approved for disability for agoraphobia, anxiety & panic & depression-I get the idea it's hard to get it for mental disorders Thanks again Jessica Marie loner >
From: Jessica Marie on 13 Feb 2006 13:40 Me again, Loner: I have been on SSI & SSDI for years d/t my severe depression. It is my understanding if you can get your doctor to give you a referral to talk to a bonafide shrink (M.D) who can write up a summary to submit to disability. You tell the PsyDoc everything about why you cannot work outside of the home (hey, you're agoraphobic!) the Dept. of Soc Security will review your case & determine whether you could even receive partial benefits. You can start w/ looking up the site map for your every day Social Security Disability office. (check the national web site for everything) Also, might want to check into programs thru the following web sites (http://helping.apa.org/) and also (http://www.mentalhealth.samsa.gov/) good luck! Jessica Marie

I have decided to apply for disability again. Since you're on it for depression, can you gives me any clues that could be helpful to me for filling out the forms? I have some medical records, but because of the agor I don't see a medical provider very often. It looks like I can apply on the computer-I know there is no way I could go to a SS office. Do I have to see a psychiatrist or psychologist or can I just use the documenation from my past drs & hospital and my general doc? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and again thanks for the sites loner > |
