Same thing can be accomplished by having something that will do the same thing when you are laying down. The idea is to help get your 'toes closer to your nose'. There is a condition, called foot-drop. It's caused by the foot being allowed to steadily sag downward instead of being in a position of function. And there are shoe-like things to prevent it, to keep those muscles in the back of the leg (gastrocnemius) from becoming shorter. You probably need something like that to stretch them to make up for their inactivity. I know someone that had a belt, with a couple of the rubber exercise bands attached. And the other ends attached to the toe part of a pair of tennis shoes. When her legs were straight, there was a steady tug, and she was able to give them exercise as well by pushing her toe portion downward against the resistance of the bands. It was slow at first, and gradually she built those muscles back up in strength, and did not have Charley Horses as she was doing it. By the way, a possible reason for not being able to come to a fully erect position yet is because of your psoas muscles having become shortened during your recovery time.
