Tell him to eat bananas. Low potassium levels can cause leg cramps.
Bananas are full of potassium.

Allow me to suggest potassium, selenium, calcium and magnesium. He should
get relief in a few days. Tell him not to take more than the recommended
amount.

I just had back (and through the stomach) surgery on the 9th of this month.
I too am experiencing
very bad leg cramps. It feels like the muscles are weak. Hubby will
massage my legs and I am
good to go for about an hour and then it sets in again. No banana's or
quine water will take
care of mine....

Wouldn't be surprised if they aren't surgery RECOVERY related.
Been sitting a lot?
Might want to stretch them, to improve their circulation.
Take a couple of 10" wide boards, about 12" long.
Turn a 2x4 piece, also 10" long, sideways, and put it between
the two board ends, and attach the other two ends together.
To form a wedge. Put it up near a wall, with the high side
closest to the wall. And just stand on it, facing towards the wall.
Stretches the muscles out in the back of the legs.
