From: DestinyintheDark on 13 Mar 2006 00:06 I am sure that there are a million articles out there about the research both pro and con but I am wondering about some of the asd thoughts on this. Good or bad and which ones are better? When I was younger one of my Aunt's had some problems with sight loss in her children (nutrasweet in popsicles I think) and it went around the family that we were genetically sensitive to aspartame- so that put a few of us off diet everything. But at the same time my father and others who are diabetic suck down artificial sweetners galore. Using artificial sweetners seem what all dieters are doing and I am wondering if it would make my life easier?? Sometimes I feel like I must be the only one not tossing back diet drinks and eating sugar free ice cream. thoughts anyone?? D

You'll find research for both the safety and risks of every sweetener. Here's an old article with a summary of some of the more popular sweeteners. Unfortunately it doesn't have any links to the research but does mention organizations that performed some of the research so maybe you can search the individual sites for more information. A lot of the research with negative comments on a sweetener often used an intake level higher than most of us would ever ingest. As with most things, moderation is the key. That said, we use Splenda at home. I like the taste and use it for cooking and baking instead of regular sugar. Beverly

Good or bad and which ones are better? As far as I'm concerned they're all bad - they're a migraine trigger for me, and I won't touch them.
