From: AJBP2009 on 12 Apr 2008 17:27 Hi everyone, I'm currently gathering scientific papers that I can print out and take to my doctor at home in USA in order to convince him to go along with my Armour. The doc I have here at school (out of the country) is the one who let me try Armour without hesitation, but I know my doc at home is going to be harder to win over-- and I really don't have the time right now to begin the doctor search again. I have found a doc on the list from the www.thyroid-inf.com website in the area I'm going to be living in next, but he is not taking patients for another 6 months. I figure I will stick w/ my doc at home (in PA) for long distance care until I can get in to see the other one so long as my GP at home will agree to keeping the T3 in my plan. I cannot imagine switching back to T4 only, and my GP has had my mother on T4 only for about 20 years (even with her high cholesterol and high blood pressure issues, which she is taking those cholesterol lowering drugs and BP drugs for). I do have a good paper here: http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/340/6/424 I'd like to give him a lot of "good" scientific info so he really can't argue too much with me... I don't think he will. He is sort of entertained by me anyway since I'm always tweeking his brain. He likes the challenge... so I don't see him totally closed off from this, but I have to give him good info. Anyone have any good links to papers to support T3 plus T4 Rx? For me, the proof has been in the pudding, but I'm pretty sure that won't be enough for him... Thank you! Angela

As you say, the proof is in the pudding. If you have your lab results that show low T3 while you were just on T4, then improved T3 since being on Armour, then that should be proof. Elizabeth

The main differences among them have been whether they say "there is NO reason to add T3" or "in this study we saw no measurable advantage to adding T3 even if the patients reported feeling better for it". I have seen little research that accepts that T3 (in whatever form) is ever required - except in a few specific circumstances such as a few odd genes, myxodema coma and such like. Search PubMed for "Escobar-Morreale HF"[Author] - look at both his papers and those that cite them. You will probably get every single recent western paper that is relevant. (You will probably miss some Russian, Chinese, Arabic and some other papers where the researchers might not be citing him.) -- Rod Hypothyroidism is a seriously debilitating condition with an insidious onset. For me, > the proof has been in the pudding, but I'm pretty sure that won't be > enough for him... > > Thank you! > Angela 1) The alt.support.thyroid website has links to a lot of things. 2) the best argument is if you are doing better on some treatment, then stay with it ("if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is good practice for anyone, even MDs) 3) most of the reasons to NOT use armour are BOGUS -- some were once true -- but haven't been true for over 30 years -- the rest were NEVER true 4) the only real objection to armour is that the T3 to T4 ratio is too high for humans -- easily fixed by adding in some synthT4 (This is the regimen five out of five hypos in my immediate and extended family are on -- armour + synth-T4) 5) finally -- the MD is consultant you pay (directly or indirectly) if he/she/it is too hide-bound to treat you as works -- fire the MD and get a new one Disclaimer -- my doctorate is in engineering not medicine |
