From: malamala on 16 Mar 2006 09:54 Hi all, haven't been here in a while... so Americans who have been to pdocs lately: I was wondering what they are pushing these days? I'm set w/my mood stabilizer combo a year now but I'm always interested. Last I heard they were leaning hard on lexapro (recommending it and giving you the freebies) but I wonder if it has changed to cymbalta? If anyone has recently gone to a GP or psychiatrist for the first or second time, I am curious what they start people on these days?
From: skip on 16 Mar 2006 12:51 hi, I don't think we've chatted before. My husband takes Lexapro has been for about 6 mos. I take Lamictal, Risperidal, Clonzepan, and plain old Zoloft. Nobody I'm in close contact with takes Cymbalta. What have you heard about it? Ever since they kicked up my dosage on the Lamital and decreased my Risperidal, I've had a bit more of the down south moods. September thru December it was Lexapro. Seemed like there was a rep in every week pushing it. Since January, it has been Cymbalta. I think we have been fed by a half dozen Cymbalta reps since the beginning of the year. Seems like its about time for them to bring in the "newest and bestest" for this month! But then, it is nearly time for a formulary update too. It really makes it a pain to try to treat people when it is the insurance company dictating what they will and will not cover, and how many hoops you need to jump thru to get the medication for the patient that the patient really needs. Oh, and Seroquel is never in short supply! ~aria

I'm with you on that one. I really don't like the idea of using antipsychotics widely. -- Nom dePlume, Ph.D. Why, yes, in fact, I am a rocket scientist.
