Hi all, haven't been here in a while... so Americans who have been to
pdocs lately:

I was wondering what they are pushing these days? I'm set w/my mood
stabilizer combo a year now but I'm always interested. Last I heard
they were leaning hard on lexapro (recommending it and giving you the
freebies) but I wonder if it has changed to cymbalta?

If anyone has recently gone to a GP or psychiatrist for the first or
second time, I am curious what they start people on these days?

hi, I don't think we've chatted before. My husband takes Lexapro has
been for about 6 mos. I take Lamictal, Risperidal, Clonzepan, and plain
old Zoloft. Nobody I'm in close contact with takes Cymbalta. What have
you heard about it? Ever since they kicked up my dosage on the Lamital
and decreased my Risperidal, I've had a bit more of the down south
moods. North Polar Skip

i know that the pdocs are really into lamictal (and so am i) and last i
checked they were giving out lexapro at the bubble gum machines.
seroquel too is really hot stuff with the family doctors. i got EPS and
my GP tried to put me on seroquel..
i'm just wondering if they are pushing cymbalta hard b/c i keep seeing
the depression hurts commercials and i knew it was cymbalta.
im sure we have chatted... i keep changing my freakin login b/c i am
too stupid to remember my password for my other google accounts. ive
been trying to get more anonymous but again... too many passwords :)

In the GP office where I work, what the patient is started on depends on two
things, (1) if they have insurance - what does their formulary specify as
the preferred medication and (2) if no Rx coverage, what drug rep has
visited lately and stocked the office with samples. September thru December
it was Lexapro. Seemed like there was a rep in every week pushing it.
Since January, it has been Cymbalta. I think we have been fed by a half
dozen Cymbalta reps since the beginning of the year. Seems like its about
time for them to bring in the "newest and bestest" for this month! But
then, it is nearly time for a formulary update too. It really makes it a
pain to try to treat people when it is the insurance company dictating what
they will and will not cover, and how many hoops you need to jump thru to
get the medication for the patient that the patient really needs. Oh, and
Seroquel is never in short supply! ~aria

I'm with you on that one. I really don't like the idea of using
antipsychotics widely.
