From: Mr. Potato Head on 6 Mar 2007 19:36 I went to the doctor for what I thought were scary symptoms. Two weeks ago, they increased my dosage of Levothroid to 100mcg. I felt like I was choking, that crazy globus feeling in my throat, terrible abdominal pain, nausea, raspy throat and some foods were getting stuck at the back of my throat--mostly bread though--I thought the worst. So, reserved to whatever fate I had, I went in with these symptoms. The doctor calmed me down and after an interview told me that it was probably IBS. That and he turned down the dosage on the Levothroid. Initially, I was irritated because he was telling me that it was in my head--so to speak. As he called it, IBS is a software issue, not hardware ( I thought it was funny since I work with computers). But acid-reflux does not wake me up in the middle of the night, normally, I don't feel the acid burn and I can eat almost anything without having acid rush up my esophagus. So, I didn't understand what was happening--why wasn't I presenting GERD symptoms. And in the morning when I wake up, I feel great. I start feeling like hell after about an hour of being awake. Then he clarified, that some emotional issue may have caused the very real physical problems--in other words--I wasn't imagining the pain, it was very real. When he told me that, I felt my esophagus clearing up, loosening up--almost immediately. My abdominal pain, gradually subsiding and feeling really hungry again. Can the mind be that powerful? Despite this, he's still sending me to a GI specialist so I can get scoped. As he said, "let's just make sure that there isn't something else going on inside your esophagus--but you're presenting almost classic IBS symptoms" "Take your Zantac, lose more weight and find a Yoga class" That was his advice. What do you folks think?
