What exactly do they do that makes you feel that they are treating you like a child? -- - Sandy "It's not the 'I', it's not the 'You', it is the 'We' that gets US through."

While you say you are not a child, your post says otherwise! If you are bothered by your family interfering with your life, you are reacting as a child would react. I know, because I was just like you. Adults don't care what their families' think: adults do whatever they want to do. That's the best thing about being adult! At first it seems overwhelming to think of the scorn your family will put on you when you decide to do something they don't approve of...so you blame them for not doing it. But if it really matters to you, then do it and let the scorn run off your back like bullets off of Superman. It'll happen again and again, and they may say "we don't like you anymore," but keep doing what you want to do, and believe me sooner than you think they'll get the message: you are yourself, and you do what you want to do. It took me 40 years to learn that. I hope you learn it sooner than that. And remember, depression's like the flu: you catch it, you feel awful, you fight it, you recover. Monk.

It does not diminish the havoc this illness can inflict but it does give hope when everything down the road looks dark.

Is it that they are too protective? If they don't visit you, that seems unlikely. Don't try to work out their motives; you can never find that out. Concentrate on what they actually DO. If they are doing nothing for you, I don't see that they are treating you as a child. Doug. |
