Hi,

I have noticed that sometimes when I go for a walk for exercise I find that
my thoughts become what I would call "depressed". I find I keep asking
myself what is the point of life etc. It's peculiar because I recognize
this as a distinct state of mind that I find recognizable. When I get home
if I have a glass of juice or some fruit I'm better right away. Is this
hypoglycemia? I recently had a blood test as part of a medical checkup and
my doctor didn't say anything about low blood sugar.

I'm trying to lose weight so I need advice on if this is a known phenomena
are there things I can do to minimize the effects. I wonder if my mood is
being effected in more subtle ways that I might not be aware of and can
anything be done about it?

Thanks

The only way to know is to get a meter and test your BG (blood glucose).
One can not go by symptoms alone to determine a hypo. However, in some
cases, it's better to err on the safe side and go by symptoms which might
include feeling faint, sweaty, dizzy, shaky, disoriented, extremely hungry,
etc.

Did you ask for a copy of your labs? If not, you should. Drs. will often
tell you things are fine when in fact something is out of range on your
labs. If you don't have a copy, you will never know. And if you do have
hypoglycemia, it can't usually be found out by a simple blood test. For
that you would need an oral glucose tolerance test. You drink a glucose
syrup and then have repeated blood draws over the course of several hours to
see how you react to it.

Haven't heard of such a thing. Sorry. Did you mention the problem to your
Dr?

Possibly but also possible it is just a conditioned reaction. Get a meter
know you BG level. A lot of the times I cant tell the difference between
hyper and hypo until I use the meter.

Assuming you have a meter, test.

Can't say without knowing more about your diet and meds.

This oral glucose tolerance test is inhumane!! Letting someone go
through that suffering to almost and in some cases fainting!!! No
medication from doctors anyway that will help.Just diet. I will not
take it! I already know by blood glucose reading of 51 and symptoms
and the relief of symptoms when consuming carbs that it is low blood
sugar. Go to walgreens and get the test kit.
