Although there was a time I had to drink alot of alcohol just to get out the front door. And even if I had alot to drink, I still had a hard time going inside stores cause they made me feel trapped. I used to leave the Safeway food store cause I'd have a panic attack. I left a shopping cart full of food several times. > I can't > Can you drive your carr alone? yes. But I've always considered my car my 2nd home, and that helped to make me feel more secure in the car. Although on a long trip I'd have to take someone I trusted not to panic. If they are secure I feel secure. If they're anxious, I get anxious. > I can't > Do you feel safe when you are alone? pretty much. > I don't > For all these things I need some extra pills One advantage of being single (as I am) is you learn to be by yourself, and do a lot by yourself. Diana, being married, you may tend to depend on your husband a lot. I don't know how much you depend on him. But it's easy to start depending on others for various things if you live with them. But beyond that, I think your current level of anxiety is higher than mine, for whatever reason(s). If a person is anxious, they can develope all kinds of fears and insecurities. From: Gloria Wolfe on 14 Oct 2008 00:01 This is an interesting E-mail, because anxiety hits every one of us differently. For myself, I like being alone during the day and enjoying the quiet and time alone to do what I want to do, or NOT do what I don't want to do ;-) I also like to shop alone and many times eat out alone when I'm running errands. As for the shower, I always make sure both my doors are locked, because our bathroom is upstairs, but I'm not paranoid about it. On the other hand, I don't like being in groups of people, or where there's a lot of noise, talking and confusion. It may be social anxiety, although I don't get the panic attacks; I just try to avoid those type of get-togethers. It seems like the older I get, and the longer I live with chronic pain, I strive for as much peace and quiet as I can control in my own life. I wish I could help you; do you like being around other people, or are you just fearful of being alone? And, have you been fearful of being alone for a long time? I can imagine how paralizing it must be to you.
