Hello everyone, I never thought I would be in this newsgroup, but. I was
recently diagnosed with a cyst on my kidney after a year of backaches and
now strong discomfort. I have an appt with doc in 2 days to see what he will
do about this cyst and pain. I have done some research on the web and now I
am REALLY frightened. Is this problem I have PKD???? I am also a type 2
diabetic, on thyroid meds. Has anyone developed a cyst without having PKD
??? I am scared. I am 56 yrs old.

Thanks
Kitty

Kitty,
My kidney problem is different than yours, but I don't believe
you're at the point of extreme worry. See a nephrologist that your
doctor trusts and get an opinion. Even get 2 opinions... :)

There is a book out that covers many different types of kidney
disease, especially to avoid dialysis for as long as possible. It is
"Coping With Kidney Disease" by Mackenzie Walser. Many kidney
diseases lead to dialysis sooner than necessary and the book helps
delay or avoid that. The book is at amazon.com for about $7.50 at the
'used' section.

Good luck,
Chris
