From: ralph p. on 30 Jul 2008 14:14 hi, i was recently at the cleveland clinic--the docs there wanted to perform a "pelvic exenteration" including the removal of my urinary bladder. i already have a colostomy from may 2005. this is a pretty scary proposition. has anyone had experience with this? was it successful? i just don't see how i might have any options. i had radiation and chemo most of last year. the hope was that the radiation and chemo would take care of cancers/tumours and allow the pelvic area to heal. that didn't materialize. while it does not appear that cancer is obviously present, i have tubular villous adenoma showing up in my bladder (very rare). the cleveland docs are saying that even if i don't have cancer this minute, if i don't go along with the sugery, i would almost certainly develop malignancy and metastases. even the pelvic exenteration is not guarantee. your advice/observations will be appreciated. --ralph p. |
