Fibromyalgia is nothing more than a collection of symptoms, i.e.,
headaches, swollen glands, GI problems, nausea, pain that travels about the
body, severe pain during weather changes, numbness in the extremities,
sciatica, stiffness during sleep, indigestion, diarrhea, chronic fatigue,
zig-zag lines in your vision after long exertion, carpal tunnel syndrome,
elbow and knee pains, muscle spasms, a general sensitivity to pain,
neuralgia, earaches, muscle rigidity throughout the body, trigger point
sensitivity, high blood pressure and leg weakness. All of these symptoms,
in general, are related to misfiring of muscles, which affects the whole
body system. After suffering for ten years with all of these horrific
symptoms, I recently discovered that I have a severe disk compression in my
cervical spine. I would recommend anyone who suffers from these
fibromyalgia symtoms to have a complete spinal workup, by a reputable
chiropractic physician. I would not recommend surgery, epidurals or any
invasive procedure, because you can become paralyzed. The risk is too
great. Work with your chiropractic physician to correct any spinal
problems. After a month of visits, three times a week, a great many of my
symptoms have disappeared, and I am not taking any medication, except for
Advil, occasionally, and some aspirin. I no longer have to nap, during the
day, and I sleep through the night, very soundly. I hope that someone will
benefit by my comments. In my thirty years as a court reporter,
specializing in medical malpractice depositions, I have never seen a lawsuit
against a chiropractor. Do not let anyone convince you that chiropractors
are dangerous.

Great, would you mind if I printed this out and give it to my Rheumy, Pain
Specialist, Orthopedic surgeons and GP.

I bet they would love to know that all the years of medical training and
studying they did was for naught.
All they needed to do was become a Chiro-quacker.

But why is my D.O. who performs manipulations like a chiro-quacker does, not
seem to agree with this.

Thank goodness, We can all stop our current treatment regimes, cancel all
the surgeries, throw away all our pain medications and just go to a
chiro-quacker.

I wonder why someone that has been suffering with FMS 30 years less than I
have figured out that it is all a scam.
I use to go to a Chiro-quacker years ago, who was also a good friend and he
told me that I needed to get medical treatment.
He told me that getting adjusted was not meant to be a life long treatment.

Thanks for setting us all straight on this FMS scam

Cause he's one of those who get to patch up bad chiro jobs? I guess there
can be both good and bad chiro's out there... I've heard people saying
they're great and yet others who were worse off after treatment. Bet there
*are* lawsuits against chiropracter's too but I'm not about to Google for
them.

Buyer beware?

Kathleen,
I was led to a chiropractor years ago. Went because I was
desperate...heard the Quack O Practor thing too. That person saved my
life. I now use both a chiropractor, DO and acupuncturist. My
medical doctor supports my going to all of them. I do know many that
have gotten so much help from chiropractors. They do get a bum rap.

Fibromyalgia is not just a collection of symptoms; it is a syndrome.
Look up the definition in a medical dictionary.

If you have the symptoms listed, there is a good chance you did not
have FM. In fact, you did not identify the most common symptoms of FM.
The symptoms necessary to be diagnosed with it.

<I recently discovered that I have a severe disk compression in my

See I was right, you did not have FM. You were misdiagnosed. In fact,
many of your symptoms sound more like CFS. If you were going to be
misdiagnosed, I'm surprised it wasn't with CFS.

Headaches, swollen glands, nausea, sciatica, diarrhea, zig-zag lines in
your vision after long exertion, carpal tunnel syndrome, elbow and knee
pains, earaches, trigger point, sensitivity, and high blood pressure
are not symptoms of FM. Whoever told you they were symptoms of FM is
wrong. Probably because they have some sort of agenda to push. It is
very easy to cure FM if you give the cure to people who don't really
have the disorder.

FM is PAIN. It is based on a positive tender point exam (which is not
the same as a trigger point) and pain in your axial skeleton and all
four quadrants of your body (unless things have recently changed). You
hurt everywhere often all at once.

Migraines are very common in PWFM (so common they may share a common
etiology) and almost all of us experience fatigue and a very specific
sleep disorder (not just insomnia). We feel pain at a lower threshold
than normals and feel pain that is not there. Nerves that are suppose
to carry sensory signals start to report pain instead. For example,
pressure on the skin is perceived as pain rather than pressure. Blood
pressure cuffs hurt like hell. Smooth muscle in hollow organs appears
to be overly sensitive causing swallowing difficulties, GERD, irritable
bladder and IBS.

Most of these symptoms did not make your long list.

<I would not recommend surgery, epidurals or any invasive procedure,
because you can become paralyzed. The risk is too great> .

And you know this how? There is no surgery for FM. But if someone with
FM must have surgery, I hope they listen to their doctors and not
someone with an agenda.

<Do not let anyone convince you that chiropractors are dangerous.>

If they are diagnosing FM, they are. Even if they are not, I think a
chiropractor should be able to recognize the disorder, it is common
enough.
