What you need is a microscope. I did that for some weeks without
thinking and noticed that the water was getting cloudy which made me
uneasy. Now I just dry it out most days and occasionally take it apart
for a good cleaning. If your's doesn't come apart I would suggest the
old half water and half vinegar cleanout, you could end up with a sience
project in there.

As long as you clean the thing out every St Swyddun's Day it should be fine ;-)

You don't get a stinky smell coming from that water? It'll begin
to smell soured if I don't clean mine every week.

haven't had a science project in 6 years (or is it 7 years) of CPAP use

and my water has never gone cloudy either
