Has anyone ever calculated the total value of the wealth and property
transfered through divorce settlements from men to women each year? I
estimate that it must be many billions of dollars.

Marriage historically used to be a way to preserve wealth and property
in the male line. Modern divorce has completely reversed that.

I think it is generally considered to be a case of dividing *family* wealth
and property between the two principals. With the majority of women being
in the workforce nowadays, it really cannot be considered to be a case of
transferring from men to women anymore

Yeah, goodness knows you wouldn't want women preserving their own wealth and
property.

To paraphrase humorist, Lewis Grizzard: Instead of getting
married again, [Franklin], find a woman [you] don't like and
just give her a house. :-/

Another Grizzard-ism: Life is like a dogsled team. If you ain't
the lead dog, the scenery never changes. =R=
