Along with severe chronic back pain, I have myofascial pain syndrome.
I'm told it's very similar to fibromyalgia.

There are places on my body that are very tender to the touch such as
my upper arms, thighs and buttocks. I was wondering if it would be
helpful if I used a gentle massager on those areas. I don't want to
make it worse.

The left side of my thigh and hip are so sore that I cannot lie on
that side at all. The right side is also tender but not nearly as
bad.

Would massage help do you think?

thanks

A gentle massager?
Probably not.
Because it won't get to the primary trouble areas, and the more
superficial areas are participating in protective guarding.
Need to get to the trouble-makers, but not in a way to cause
them and others to go into pain-spasm-pain cycles.

Just an impression from someone with a very small amount
of experience in such matters.

The massagers you buy (unless you have a very wonderful person to help
you), aren't able to reach the areas you want. The best answer would
be to call around and see if you can find a Massage Therapist that
KNOWS FIBRO!!! I have it and know how it hurts you. But, a massager
or massage without someone that knows firbo, WILL make it much worse.

gentle hugs n lots of love

Thanks. Guess I've got some research to do.

Ya know, if you lived near me, we could probably get some
of your issues under control, and help you learn how to keep
them under control. Especially that "back pain". Betting your
left buttock is a real issue.
If you were wearing jeans, the back pocket would be over a
couple of the more troublesome areas. And we would take
care of it in what has been noted to be a rather novel way.
But quite effective.
