From: Grant on 10 Apr 2007 19:18 I've been on Nexium for several years and in the last couple of years, it hasn't been doing the job, especially at night. I've had a gastric emptying test (normal), a 48-hour Bravo Ph test(moderate corelation of symptoms to Ph level). My EGD came back negative for esophageal erosions. I had read a couple of papers about Zelnorm being used to treat "functional" heartburn and asked my GI speciallist about it. He wasn't crazy about the idea, but let my try it. It has made a *huge* difference in my symptoms. To the point that I can again eat and drink the foods I've been missing out on for the last 2 years. I've been on it for 3 weeks now and not one incident of heartburn! Unfortunately, Zelnorm has now been pulled from the market. So, I'm trying to figure out what to take in its place. It looks like Zelnorm is a serotonin agonist, so perhaps an antidepressant (SSRI) might do the job but I'm a bit leary of starting an antidepressant. Has anyone here tried 5-HTP for this purpose? I'm also concerned about these so- called "natural" medications since there seems to be little regulation in that industry. Thanks, Grant
