I visited some of the same spots with the twins 3 years ago. My brother was stationed at Fort Richardson, we were able to stay at his house and check out the Kenai peninsula to the south and trekked up to Denali and the Matanuska(sp) Glacier. Spent most of the weekend rowing so I don't feel like standing up either.

Photos don't do it justice. The green is SO green it almost hurts your eyes. The blue in the glaciers and icebergs is almost neon blue. The the vastness is just so...vast. Also, the food was extraordinary, the water...the TAP water...was like bottled water down here in the Lower 48, and the service industry personnel...waiters, drivers, hotel workers, etcetera...were happy, friendly, enthusiastic...everything Las Vegas' isn't. > > > Well, that killed a few minutes. It's an extraordinary place. I can easily see myself retiring up there.

The two animals she REALLY wanted to see were grizzlies and puffins. Got to see them both. > Is this the White Pass & Yukon?http://picasaweb.google.com/sammiesdad/AlaskaJuly2008/photo#522643401... No. The Alaska Railroad. Excellent, friendly, efficient service on one of the world's most scenic railroads. Highly recommended. |
