From: yayimshrinking on 4 Sep 2008 11:42 I got my test results, everything was benign, Thank the Lord. I had 2 tumors, one on each side, which I kept telling them I had something on the right, which was found on the July u/s but not the August one. I didn't feel the one on the left just the right, I was told it wasn't possible, guess what, I was right, it was there. Anyway I am so thrilled it was benign, thanks for all your prayers and support. A question: I was put on 7 days of Cytomel as a booster to starting back my Synthroid. I took the first Cytomel about 5 last night and my Synthroid this morning. I only slept about 2 hours last night and woke this morning with a severe headache. Over the last few months I have had lots of sleepless nights and never woke with a headache before. Has anyone taken Cytomel? If so, did you have any reactions? I looked it up this morning and it could cause the insomnia and headache but since I only have 7 days it may just be something I deal with or maybe wait and see how tonight goes. Thanks again for your support. Debbie

Yippee!!! I am on cytomel. It can make you have the symptoms you are having. It has a short half so I split my dose. I take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 around dinner time. I don't remember that I had any negative reactions when I started on it, but by then I was post-op and on Synthroid for 6 months, so completely different scenario than yours. I am on 5 mcg, so that means I am taking 2.5 at a time. What is your dose? If you still have the symptoms and don't want to deal with them for the days you have left out of the 7, you might call your doc and ask if you can split the dose. Keep letting us know how you are doing, Diane

I planned to take my meds and lay down, but family life gets in the way sometimes. Within an hour of taking the 2nd dose of Cytomel I was wide awake and going. I was still tired but had energy to go. I am on (1) 25 mcg per day. I was up last night until 2, and that was after taking 2 tylenol pm at midnight. I got about 3 hours sleep. I am moving the pill to earlier in the day so I can sleep at night. I can't keep functioning an 2 and 3 hours of sleep and work full time, plus take care of my hubby and kids. He put me back on my 125mcg of Synthroid but it takes several days for it to build up in your system, which is why he did the Cytomel. I wouldn't mind staying on the Cytomel for the energy shot it gives you, Synthroid has never done that for me. Thanks for your support debbie

That's quite a lot on top of the T4, even though the T4 hasn't built up in your system yet, you will be getting some benefit from it. Are you taking the whole 25mcg of cytomel in one dose? If so, it might be worth splitting the pill in half. Take one half, and then only take the secong half later if you feel the need for it.
