Whew! I finally figured it out. It was one little setting... just setting
the "server timeout" from short to long. I was in disbelief when things
actually started loading and being cooperative....

You wanna hear what sucks? I called my ISP--the one I pay money to every
month?--and they wanted $99.00 before they would do anything to my newsgroup
settings. I called Microsoft (and let me say that I just went out and
purchased a new Windows XP operating system disc to have my computer
reformatted this time) and they wanted $59.00 before they would look into
newsgroups.

Now--after finding out what a tiny adjustment it was--I would have been
REALLY pissed if I had spent money to find out the problem.

BUT--along the way I got so distraught I was ready to stab myself with a
butter knife.

Okay, so I'm back
