Prev: Take Prilosec BEFORE bed rather thn AM?
Next: What to do if my endoscopy finds a hernia or GERD?
From: me on 5 Sep 2007 11:07 I'm having terrible problems with GERD lately. I had a flare up back in May.... go scoped..... nothing big found but I'm not sure how far down that scope goes the esophagus. Lately I having tenderness and pain in the "V" part of my chest bones. If you push somewhat its very sore there.. Actually feels like the bone is sore!!! Can GERD cause such symptoms as well? I also having the classic symptoms of sore throat, raspy voice, etc. I've increased my bed elevation a few more inches but too early to tell if that will help I'm taking Prilosec in the evenings. I'm going to call my gastro doc and get back in to see him but sure it will be a few weeks before I can. Advice? Opinions? I'm 49..... fairly slim..... watch what I eat....all the usual lifestyle changes!!

My question is whether or not daily use of lisinopril and simvastatin can cause GERD? Lisinopril controls my BP.... simvastatin is generic Zocar. I take 10 mg lisinopril and 40mg simvastatin in evenings abt 6pm.

My doc ran some blood tests and it appears I may have some form of arthritis too. So, if the chest-bone pain comes back, he wants me to go see a rheumatologist next, I guess because the chest pain could be chostochondritis. (I may have spelled that wrong!). I'm no expert about any of this, but apparently it is inflammation of the breastbone cartilage... which (if that is the dx) would be unrelated to my GERD condition. It is exactly as you describe: a tender, painful spot I can actually press on it and feel it. It's not under the breastbone - it seems to be the bone itself. From what I understand, a diagnosis for this is a process of elimination. They've already run cardiac stress tests and took a lung x-ray... and it seems to still be there even while on the PPI's. This particular symptom comes and goes for me, very often in conjunction with the achy/hot joint flare-ups (hands, wrists, elbows, hips), which seems to point strongly to an arthritic condition. jen

Or just two separate things in same area? My whole entire digestive tract feels inflamed. I even have what feels like proctitis or hemorrhoids. Damn miserable. I'm going to get to doc as fast as possible but I don't have any health insurance at the moment except for a temp policy that only covers me for a few months and does not pay well. I'm in between jobs...laid off. So money is an issue here!
