From: Liam T. on 27 Aug 2008 11:59 Hello There, I'm wondering if I take a protein powder, that has 3 grams of carb, and blend the protein with a teaspoon of benefibre or some other fibre (metamucil) will the fibre neutrilize the carbs? My understanding that in some diets like PP, you deduct the fibre from the original carbs to get the "net carbs", this way by adding fibre will I be able to reduce carbs? Thanx Liam

Fiber isn't a negative when deducted - 3 grams without fiber. Total is 3, deduction is 0, count is 3. 3 grams without fiber. Add 3 grams of fiber. Total is 6, deduction is 3, count is 3. There is no magic bullet like that.

If it did, I'd be eating pizza and french fries every day. Sometimes, it slows them, but that can be a very bad thing, like the well documented "pizza effect." It's a late, very long lasting glucose spike. Susan |
