Hmmm...

Did you mean the "spirit of cheerful goodwill" that prevailed amongst
the Chinese and North Koreans as they faked the paperwork to show that
their pre-teen girl gymnasts were actually sixteen so that they could
legally compete?

Or mayhap you meant the "mutual admiration" between the dopers, 12 of
whom are disqualified on average from every Olympics? (Not to mention
the ones who dope and never get caught.)

Oh, wait! You must mean the "sportsmanship" that's caused judges in
all sorts of sports to score the atheletes from their own nations -or
political allies- very highly while shafting the entrys of
"unfriendly" nations!

Because *that*, friend, is the "heartbeat of the Olympics".

You forgot the incessant bribery of the IOC by our ramrod straight
ultra conservative tell-everyone-else-how-to-live Mormons in
Salt Lake City to get the IOC to site the Olympics there.

Heh heh...I was being facetious since S'mee was going on a rant.

I actually think the olympics are something of a farce.

Are there a large number of multi-sport Olympians?

Swimmnig in particular requires a single-minded dedication.

Swimming isn' t known for being a high-income sport as a whole but
I'll betcha Phelps makes more than you do off it.

Which "multi sports" are you talking about? They're all still the same
sport, just different events. You're still on a bike on all of them.
And let's face it the bike is doing all the work, you're just pointing
it. Try a real sport where you have to generate your forward motion
yourself.

Noob. S'mee is _always_ on a rant.
