Hi Mike

I "googled it" and found that, in most cases, kosher salt does not
contain iodine. Here's a link to an entry at wikipedia's website:

http://yahoo.shoptoit.ca/shop/product--catId_1002879__locale_en__productId_643807.html.

I assume you could buy it in regular or maybe ethnic grocery stores in
Canada. But I live in the US and have no idea... Here's a link to a
Canada Yahoo Shopping page selling kosher salt:

http://yahoo.shoptoit.ca/shop/product--catId_1002879__locale_en__productId_643807.html

Hope that helps! :-)

Thanks for taking the time to look this up for me. I am confident I will
find it somewhere. It helps to have the name of a product to look for.
Thanks again for your quick response and helpfullness.

I'm sure you can get some more help from Thryvors -- a Canadian thyroid
cancer survivor http://www.thryvors.org/ or from the general ThyCa
group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Thyca/ -- join & post your
questions there, I know there are Canadians among the several thousand
list-members, & *lots* of LID-related messages.

I've heard that "pickling salt" in un-iodized & I think some Canadian
thycans use that. Not all Kosher salt is un-iodized so you can't just go
by that.

There are Low Iodine Cookbooks -- a free version on the ThyCa site and a
professional one available through amazon The Low Iodine Diet Cookbook
by Norene Gilletz -- as well as The Thyroid Cancer Book by M. Sara
Rosenthal, Ph.D
Best wishes to your mom.
