Hi all,
A co-worker just gave me two yams. I am sooo clueless in the kitchen
that I thought they came in a can and had marshmellows with them.
Shows ya how much I know about some things. (Cooking, veggies) Anyway,
any clue how to cook them? My friend said to cut them into chunks and
put in the microwave for eight minutes. I can handle that. But, what
do you put on them? Butter? Cheese? I have no idea as I have only had
them once when I was a kid with the marshmellows.

..
Aren't they also known as sweet potatos?

Sorry, I don't have any such recipes.

My granddaughter fixes them all the time; her 2 year old daughter loves
them. She just boils them in water till fork tender. Drain and slightly
cool. Slice into 1 inch rounds and peel. I like to add a little butter,
salt and pepper.

Leftovers kept in the refrigerator (unsliced) make a quick snack for the
little one. Just cut off a slice.

I must say I don't like yams to begin with. Like you, I had them with
marshmallows on them and I believe they were also mashed. Yucky!!!! Then
my SIL's mom served some for dinner. These were just in chunks. I ate some
and really liked them. Perhaps I was really hungry at the time. I don't
know. When I asked her how she made them, she laughed and showed me the
can. They were done in a heavy syrup.

Since then I have tried to eat the canned ones and hated them. I also once
bought a couple of really large ones and baked them. I had a recipe at the
time. I think I might have peeled them. I remember baking them whole,
perhaps covered in foil. I think the only seasonings I put on them were
salt and pepper. I remember them being super hard to peel and taking next
to forever to bake. And in the end, nobody liked them.

I think if anything you would put some butter or olive oil on them. Not so
sure cheese would be good. My daughter likes sweet potato fries. I
sometimes get the frozen ones that you bake. They're okay, I guess. I
wouldn't go out of my way for them though.
