From: "Will "Max" Raymonds" on 14 Dec 2005 12:01 I am frightened of dentists. Just despise that drilling sound/vibration of the slow drill.... among other things. so, needless to say, not only was I blessed with 2 parents that have God Awful teeth, I avoid the dentist. Recipe for disaster, right? Here's what's going on now - 3 teeth have broken off at the gumline and all have draining abcess holes in my gumline. A dentist, who gave me 12 percs and a 14 day supply of Penecillin said they NEED to be pulled - the two lower ones he'd do for 650.00!!! I am awaiting DDDisability and my State insurance will NOT pay for any dental so I'm screwed...no one to borrow from, etc etc SO, QUESTION is, I've heard that leaving these bad kinda teeth in your mouth without pulling them can cause problems with your heart, your brain even your body as a whole via blood. Anyone care to elaborate? Scare me if you must but just realize, nothing will be done until I can afford it and that won't be until February of 2006. But let me know of certain signs to look for so I can make a bee-line top the ER if need be. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will Roberts "MAX"

Will Roberts "MAX" $650 for extracting 2 teeth may be a routine fee for a specialist, but it's very high for any but the most difficult surgical extractions in my office. I think it will probably be possible to have it done for significantly less. I don't know what state you're in. I would guess that most states will have dental benefits for at least emergency dental care under Medicaid. Steve -- Mark & Steven Bornfeld DDS http://www.dentaltwins.com Brooklyn, NY 718-258-5001

As for the dental fear, there is a good site with support group at http://www.beyondfear.org/ -- Roy rem NADA to reply

Will Roberts "MAX" Personally I think you should get them extracted ASAP if they are abscessed. $650 sounds high. I would look around for other options. I have heard dentists quote $79 for an extraction. You can also check the university dental school (if there is one in your area) or a low-cost clinic (there are generally some sliding-fee clinics available in most cities). Don't wait to make a trip to the ER! JMHO. Sue (nondentist)
