From: EricMaier on 15 Feb 2006 09:08 I need some help....i would like to loose about 15-20 lbs while preparing for a 10k run. I have begun my running regimine, but i still dont have a great eating plan. What do you think is the best plan out there for someone like me? Any suggestions are great, thanks.

There's no general answer to the question of what's best. What is best for one person fails for another. So what's best is to experiment a bit and see which type of plans work for you and are easy to stay on for you. Then stick with that type of plan and gradually customize it to yourself. The more thought you are willing to put in, the better your eventual custom plan. Okay, that said, should you start with low cal, low fat or low carb? Since you're running and the first two weeks of serious low carb plans cut into exercise intensity and then build back up, if you go with a low carb one you'll want to go with one of the mild ones not one of the very low ones. Maybe Carbohydrate Addicts Diet series. If you want to go low fat, any moderate one should be fine. (Notice a pattern here? I recommend mild not severe no matter the type of plan. That's because much of the time an all or nothing approach results in nothing). There are plenty around but the one that was the most popular the longest might be The T-Factor Diet. If you decide to go low cal, there are a lot better people to ask for advice than me. They often discuss WW.

I don't know about current followings of this newsgroup, but about 10 years ago this group was high on the Atkins low-carb diet. I lost a lot of weight using my own version of it, and I personally recommend it as a comfortable diet to be on. But, I did not choose low-carb as my maintenace diet because of the possible detrimental health problems (In other words, your heart muscle could be robbed in the long run.) One thing that I did notice, and you will probably like, is I felt like superman for about two weeks when I started eating carbohydrates again! It was unlike anything else that I have ever felt. I was on the diet for 6 months without a care in the world. My diet was to buy a pocket carb counter book (10000 items listed) and eat based on it plus I took a multi-vitamin. Hope this helps, Christopher Lusardi
