From: Tom on 15 Aug 2005 22:11 Hello, I heard some where that Tea Tree Oil is the main ingredient in some OTC herpes products and I was thinking of buying it because the price would be lower that way. Does anyone use it? Also what is it good for? I don't usually get raging sores, but instead I get some minor blisters or pimples that only burn or pinch a little. What are some of your experiences with using it if any? I would like to use it if it will help my more bothersome problems which tend to be the tingling, pinching and itching I get in the prodrome. Thanks,
From: Grant on 16 Aug 2005 07:08 Tea Tree Oil is good for all sorts of things. And many with oral herpes say that it really works well for them. However, you can't put the actual Tea Tree Oil on your skin. It can cause many problems that way. Hence, the TTO is generally mixed in with something else. Look for some kind of ointment in the health food store that seems to feel like a good bet for you. My personal experience? Can't use it. If I use any product with TTO in it, I break out with acne. ar In article <mXbMe.7323$RS.2486(a)newsread3.news.pas.earthlink.net>, Tom says... > >Hello, > >I heard some where that Tea Tree Oil is the main ingredient in some OTC >herpes products and I was thinking of buying it because the price would be >lower that way. Keep in mind that Tea Tree Oil is not a herpes antiviral, it doesn't reduce asymptomatic shedding, it is not recommended for suppressive therapy, and it doesn't cut transmission in half. > Does anyone use it? Also what is it good for? I don't use Tea Tree Oil but I do have a feedback - comment page for those that have tried Tea Tree Oil or know a little something about Tea Tree Oil: www.yoshi2me.com/comments/tea-tree-oil.html > I don't > usually get raging sores, but instead I get some minor blisters or pimples > that only burn or pinch a little. You already know what you need to do to treat your herpes outbreaks. If you are looking for something to deal with the page there is an excellent section about over the counter products that can be used for pain relief over on www.westoverheights.com where the free herpes handbook information is posted. Hang in there, Angela ;-) PS If anybody has any more Tea Tree Oil comments please don't hesitate to send them to me and I will be more than happy to add those to the page: angela @ yoshi2me.com
From: Tom on 16 Aug 2005 21:24 Okay thanks, but if it is in some OTC products can you tell me which ones? My mother told me about something that you can get at Whole Foods Market and it is called Rescue Cream, which is not an antiviral but just something to soothe painful skin problems. The thing is that I am the only person in my family that has genital herpes, so I really don't have too many people that I know of that can provide feedback. Even my girlfriend who has had it 12 years isn't that knowledgeable about it. A couple of other family members also have HPV from what I understand, but that's the least of my worries when it comes to bothersome symptoms... I know I should probably be taking Valtrex, especially since I have 1-2 OB's a month, but I cannot afford it right now and really don't want to be taking that kind of drug. I have already taken Valtrex for a short time and I really didn't see that much improvement. I hoping this calms down in the near future.
