I have had these experiences often and so, at times they are terrifying.
But I am a believer in Jesus and when I get into this state I just call
or think of his name and I usually rollover and fall asleep.

Its not a religious event, just that my mind is so focussed on Jesus's
power that I am able overcome the state.

You might try it, or if you aren't religious focus on some subject that
you have an intense interest in and when you wake up in this state,
concentrate on that subject.

Sometimes if the experience isn't too disturbing I will lay there and
consiously watch the experience, knowing I can't move is not so
frightening when you are able to study the phenomenon.
