From: WEGO Dan on 15 Oct 2007 09:05 Hi Everyone, My name is Dan, and I am the Allergy & Asthma Community Administrator at WEGO Health. As you know, there is so much health information on the Web that it can be overwhelming when people try and search for accurate resources. Our website recently launched and our mission is to identify, rank, and organize the most helpful health and wellness content online and make it easy to access by everyone. We need the help of people like you, with real experience with these topics, to review the material and help us decide what information is most helpful. We can then organize the rated content and provide the public with only the most useful articles to save them time. Pulling together good health information is definitely a team effort. Our mission is articulated very nicely here: http://www.wegohealth.com/about-us.html Below are a few pages that our research team has pulled together on food allergies. As I mentioned previously, all of the content on our site can be rated and reviewed by community members. We also have discussion forums. Peanut Allergy http://allergy.wegohealth.com/peanut-allergy.html?searchterm=peanut-allergy Baby Food Allergy http://allergy.wegohealth.com/baby-food-allergy.html Milk Allergy http://allergy.wegohealth.com/milk-allergy.html?searchterm=milk-allergy I'm wondering if anyone in this group would be interested in reviewing some of the asthma-related materials on WEGO Health. Please let me know if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions. Thanks in advance for checking out these links and I hope to hear back from you soon. Cheers, Dan
From: Beth Kevles on 15 Oct 2007 13:18 Hi -- I like the idea of a consumer PLUS medical refereed source for medical information. The one page I looked at (milk allergy) wasn't very helpful, though. The three links listed led to some information that was misleading, and never to complete information. I'd like to see a way to suggest links on the topic, which can then be vetted by your medical expert to exclude misinformation, and then an easy way to vote on different web sites, perhaps like people can vote on books at amazon.com and other web sites. Interesting concept .... I'll be interested in seeing where it goes. --Beth Kevles bethkevles(a)gmail.PUT-THE-COM-HERE http://web.mit.edu/kevles/www/nomilk.html -- a page for the milk-allergic Disclaimer: Nothing in this message should be construed as medical advice. Every WEGO page is a work in progress, and the ability for anybody to suggest links is an integral part of that. The site is currently in BETA, but we're very close to implementing a redesign that will make submitting a link very easy, and the option will be prominently displayed. Anybody can also rate and comment on each resource, and resources that are rated highly will be featured, while those that people don't find useful will be replaced. People can also discuss the resources in the forums, and WEGO's research team regularly interacts with the community there. I personally think it's a very exciting concept, and I'm eager to hear more feedback. Incidentally, I also thought the milk allergy page was one of the weaker pages on the site, and I already mentioned that to the research team. I'm eager to see how that page in particular, and the topic pages in general, change as more people begin to suggest new links and rate the existing ones. By the way, have you gotten a chance to look at any of the other food allergy pages? If so, what did you think? Thanks again for the feedback! Dan
