From: uglav on 4 Aug 2008 09:00 I mentioned a while back a political party I was thinking of voting for in our local elections. Since then the party's leader has been under heavy pressure with claims of improper funding measures for the party and its political interests with so far no proof of any wrong doing. To be honest I bet many parties look at how to improve electoral funding while retaining the appearance of legal channels. Given the disputed funds have been freely given to boost the party's funds, and that the party never said specifically, I think, that the money would be used for electoral campaigning rather than funding party interests like research, political queries, and formulating policy or other party administrative matters... I don't really get the point. I am far more interested in what the various parties' visions for the future of my country are than a little creative use of funding that was freely given for the use of the party for I think unspecified party purposes. Loyalty to this country is far more important and a thought to the future of its people. I have got a little tired of the global warming stuff. I think conservation is important but I meant in terms of protecting our natural heritage, protecting our water ways and water table, good air quality, replanting of native forest (and exotic forest too) and diverse energy generation such as a mix of hydro-electric, wind, and solar power= non-poisonous energy where the water, wind and sun is not changed into poisonous waste product that hangs around much longer than human life will be around. I think agricultural research, and the fostering of technological development and the manufacturing sectors are critically important. A dismantling of political correctness, and the reintroduction of the notions of excellence earned would be great. Team work is great, but there are many who desire individual recognition too. A mix of both recognition for the team and for individual achievement is best. People don't always try if there is no recognition of their mark on life. I would hope to that the government would be a good manager and not feel the need to borrow huge sums of money in order to give the electorate a reduction in taxes, because if they did not borrow the money we have so carefully paid back over the last few years then there would be no money left to invest in infrastructure or economic development, and innovation that would drive our economy, on top of the tax cuts that some seem so keen on making. Why not have tax credits for money invested in key areas of development. I would like to see initiatives to address the roots and catalysts of crime, rather than ploughing resources that just try to stopper the symptons. I think these include gambling and addictions to intoxicants. The stuff that people sell their soul for to get that last fix before they give up. I think too that the law needs to look at being tougher on the pillars of the community and those whose example are followed by others. You are not going to control boy racers when they see ordinary citizens breaking the speed limit with impunity every day. Most people are going to try and follow the example of the people whose good opinion they value. |
