From: consumer62000 on 22 May 2005 14:28 I was recently diagnosed with Haital hernia. I am not having any heartburns lately ( i am on Prevacid) But for last few days I am having a strange feeling - like I am going to vomit but I do't atually vomit. It started after I took Alegra-D for my allergies. I am not sure if it is hernia related or is it something else. Can someone help?

Now, it's true that a hiatus hernia can contribute to LES malfunction, but hiatus hernia is only present in about 40% of people with GERD. The majority of people with hiatus hernia have no GERD symptoms, and the majority of people with GERD don't have hiatus hernia. The feeling that you might have to vomit may very well be related to your LES problem. Best thing to do is lose weight, sleep upright, eat small meals, don't smoke, don't drink, stay away from caffiene, and don't eat anything after 8:00PM. HMc
