Which meter?
Hi, I spent an interesting ten minutes in the chemists (Lloyd's Pharmacy) waiting for my next batch of statins, looking through all the different glucose testers on offer. Interesting that they had so many (am I in diabetic city?) but it did raise the question of which one to get. Is there the equivalent of... 23 Apr 2008 18:11
Metformin strategies
Hi, Having just been switched over to metformin (and fortunately not having any of the gastric side-effects!) I'm just wondering what sort of pattern people take theirs in. I'm on 1500mg/day and have 500mg tablets. I don't really want to take two at once and want to make sure that I: a) minimise the dawn ph... 16 Apr 2008 09:14
Black Fat (Visceral adipose tissue or VAT).
In our collective clinical experience, referring to visceral adipose tissue (VAT) using the slaughterhouse jargon, black fat, powerfully conveys how harmful VAT truly is: http://HeartMDPhD.com/BlackFat Thus, it remains much smarter to eat less, down to the right amount: http://HeartMDPhD.com/BeSmart Here ... 15 Apr 2008 05:47
Testing for the newly diagnosed
Hi, My surgery, with a specialist diabetic nurse, tell me that they have stopped giving out test kits to the newly diagnosed because they weren't seeing any real benefit. Exercise (walking)
Hi, reading the various (sometimes conflicting) literature on health, exercise, and diabetes I see that half an hour's exercise three to four times a week should make a significant difference. Reading other literature the recommended daily exercise is 10,000 steps. Being of a logical ( not to say picky) fram... 18 Apr 2008 08:39
Introducing Myself (another one )
Hi, I am a 57 year old white male and was diagnosed as Type 2 at the end of February. I turned myself in because I was getting the classic symptoms; tired, weight loss, increased thirst. I first had a test at the chemist, and when this was positive went immediately to see my doctor. The onset is fairly r... 15 Apr 2008 18:45

Prediabetes---stressing out!
sarah wrote: Hi all. I was just diagnosed with prediabetes. That would be old school for metabolic syndrome (MetS). In a way it gives me some kind of releif because I now have a reason for why I've been feeling so bad. I've been going to the doctors for over 2 years now telling them I feel hor... 12 Apr 2008 11:08
