Cholesterol and Thyroid Hormone
One common story here is of people having high cholesterol levels. Not infrequently they have had problems reducing these levels and sometimes are on statins. (Despite the possibility of nasties such as rhabdomyolysis when hypoTs are treated with statins, doctors seem not to do thyroid tests, or to prescribe st... 7 Aug 2008 13:29
Elevated ACTH?
Hi everybody Just got an elevated test result with serum ACTH at 111 [7-50]. This was at 8 am so my Cortosol was 20 [4-22 I think]. So my endo says "That's NOT adrenal fatigue!". I showed her my 24h urine cortosol was lowish at 5 [5-50] but she just blew that off. DHEA,s is a bit high, and I'm just a tad hy... 6 Aug 2008 14:54
Update on my quest to see an endocrinologist
Hi Everyone, It's been awhile since I wrote, but I wanted to let you know I finally got referred! Some may remember that last year, I had gone in to see a new family doctor and he didn't want to send me to an endocrinologist because it would look bad on him if he sent a patient with normal test results. A f... 6 Aug 2008 12:51
Thyrolar (problems in the past getting it, was on Armour)
I was on Armour thyroid but since the present issues of getting it (i asked my pharmacist about problems with the Armour he said it's a materials issue) they dont have enough materials to make it he said. It's funny in the past i was on Thyrolar and was doing great on it and then they stopped making it too (in the ... 7 Aug 2008 15:33
Mood Disorders and Thyroid
When I first visited a.s.t, I was shocked and amazed by the number of references to anti-depressants, anxiolytics and other related medicines. Over time I can appreciate quite how strong is the connection between thyroid and mood/mind. I note that even in this abstract the authors have felt the need to say "... 6 Aug 2008 03:36
Breast Cancer and Thyroid Disease Relationship
New article (abstract only, I'm afraid) which identifies a "plausible mechanism to explain the thyroid disease-breast cancer relationship". Breast cancer has been mentioned many times here (on a.s.t) and perhaps this might help to prove a link. ========= 1: Crit Rev Oncol Hematol. 2008 Aug 1. [Epub ahead o... 6 Aug 2008 09:44

Am I overdosed?
Hi all, I have been at what should be my maintenance dose of Synthroid for almost 9 weeks now. Just before I hit 6 weeks, I began having a delay in falling asleep and a fine tremor in my hands at night. A couple days ago, I switched from taking my dose in the morning to just before bed, but it is still takin... 7 Aug 2008 15:33

Thyroid Hormone Receptor Modelling - Press Release
Endo1: You know what? Endo2: What? You telling? Endo1: Just heard, IBM reckon thyroid disease might be more complicated than taking a pill every day. Endo2: Gee - have to find an easier job. Maintenance Dosages
Hi, I went to my doctor yesterday to re-do my blood work requisition (because there were more things I wanted to add). He was agreeable to everything (he's good like that); but didn't think I need to retest my anti-bodies since we've already determined they are high, which lead to the Hashimoto's diagnosis. Any... 1 Aug 2008 15:05
Euthyroid or ???
Wherever you look, you see the term 'euthyroid'. Most of the time it is used to mean 'with thyroid hormones levels in the reference ranges'. But its etymology (below) clearly suggests that it actually applies to those with good thyroids that work 'normally'. In my book, this is categorically different to havin... 28 Jul 2008 22:21
Blood Testing and Potassium
Given the recent posts concerning potassium, I thought this story to be of particular interest. Please note, however, that blood serum potassium levels can be normal even when tissue levels are low. So blood tests are not much use for detecting problems of insufficency. They have their place in detecting proble... 27 Jul 2008 08:24
