Euthyroid or ??? Wherever you look, you see the term 'euthyroid'. Most of the time it is used to mean 'with thyroid hormones levels in the reference ranges'. But its etymology (below) clearly suggests that it actually applies to those with good thyroids that work 'normally'. In my book, this is categorically different to havin... 28 Jul 2008 22:21
Blood Testing and Potassium Given the recent posts concerning potassium, I thought this story to be of particular interest. Please note, however, that blood serum potassium levels can be normal even when tissue levels are low. So blood tests are not much use for detecting problems of insufficency. They have their place in detecting proble... 27 Jul 2008 08:24
Prostate issues? After scanning through 10 pages of this newsgroup looking for prostate issues, I decided that either there's an uncommon link between prostate issues and hypothyroidism or guys just aren't talking about it. I stopped taking Levothroid to see what would happen and I think I may developed prostatis issues. I hate... 28 Jul 2008 11:02
Bioequivalence of Thyroxine Part of an ongoing series of thyroid-related information thought to be potentially of interest to some of our readers. :-) IMHO this is interesting for many reasons. Not least, I have seen the effect of changes of thyroxine brand - and some are without doubt significant. Also, it throws yet more dosage dete... 31 Jul 2008 12:23

Is Anyone Here Underweight? A couple of people I've spoken to were surprised to hear I have Hashimoto's (which causes hypothyroidism) because I'm underweight vs. overweight. Are most hypoT people overweight? I'm also a little worried that being on thyroid replacement medication will cause me to actually lose more weight. Is it a given th... 29 Jul 2008 15:46
Armour and weight loss I have been on thyroid replacement for 2 years. I am a 5' 10" male 68 years old. When I started I was overweight at 220 despite being a very active person. Now I weigh 165 and am quite happy at that weight. I had been on 120 mg. Armour. Most of the hypothyroid symptoms went away except for chronic neck pain, i... 24 Jul 2008 08:47
Enriching crops could boost our immune system Just found this press release - I'd guess we will see a trickle of reports based on this in the rest of the media. All very well supplementing wheat - but given the number of people who eat little or no wheat these days (for many reasons), the approach appears questionable. Perhaps it simply needs to be applie... 23 Jul 2008 01:01
When to take thyroid I used to take my thyroid pill as I woke up. However, I have been going to the gym for a workout at 515am and get home about 715am. So it's about a 2-hour time lapse between taking my pill and eating. I would rather grab a banana or something small before working out and then take the pill when I get home. Does any... 25 Jul 2008 18:40 |
