Thyroid Gland Grows in the Cold
I have just come across an interesting paper (see summary/abstract below). Pigs were kept in a cold environment (4 degrees C). This resulted in "increased energy intake, thyroid size, T3 PAR, and hepatic 5'D-I activity with little change in serum TSH". As I understand it, that is basically saying that the pigs... 21 Apr 2008 15:47
Raised dose, feeling strange
Hi all, I've gradually gone up from 25 mcg to 37.5 -- now am on 50 mcg of Synthroid -- over the past few months. I've noticed some improvement. I just went up to 50 about a week ago, and I feel a little strange, sort of anxious and unsettled, yet I still feel foggy at the same time. The fog is bad in the mor... 20 Apr 2008 22:47
Why cats and dogs get thyroid problems?
I found the following article. I don't know how well regarded the Environmental Working Group are, but the story is at the very least interesting. A couple of quotes: "Endocrine (hormone) system toxins raise particular concerns for cats, since they include the thyroid toxins and fire retardants called PBDEs... 17 Apr 2008 15:47

I remember that diurnal variations of TSH have been already discussed in this group. Seems your posts are not getting through properly. Some you posted on 10/04/2008 have only just appeared (for me using the Berlin news server) and have not yet appeared for partner (using our ISP's news server). Hashimoto's vs. T4/T3 conversion problem
Hi all, Anyone care to venture a theory on whether Hashimoto's patients are more or less likely than other hypothyroid patients to have a T4 to T3 conversion problem? If I remember correctly, about 80% of the body's T3 is converted from T4. The thyroid itself is supposed to produce the other 20% or so. So, ... 14 Apr 2008 03:08
