From: TG on 2 Nov 2005 19:17 Hi everyone, Can anyone tell me what the normal limits are to this test? I'm looking at my test results and most of them make sense (except for the fact that I wasn't fasting when they took the blood). First TSH Test (Fasting) 7.9 Second TSH Test (not fasting) 4.8 (what could I have eaten that would have changed this)? FT4 Test (taken with the second TSH) 1.15 (normal range looks like .93 - 1.70) Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) Ab 283 (thats two hundred eighty three!!) Limits look like 0-34 (taken with second TSH and FT4 test) Thyrotopin Receptor not yet received results. Any insights?? My Doc put me on synthroid. Thanks!! TG
From: Lisa on 2 Nov 2005 19:53 Thyroid Peroxidase test levels being elevated mean you have the antibodies in your system, which means your body has produced an autoimmune response (attacking it's own thyroid cells) and if you're Hypothyroid, this indicates Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism, and if you're Hyper, Graves Hyperthyroidism. At least, that's what I've gleaned so far from the information I've read at http://labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/thyroid_antibodies/test.html. TPO can be present, but those of us who have both when hyperT/Graves just don't have as much problems with TED, Thyroid Eye Disease, for whatever reason. After weaning off of atd's for the hyperT/Graves 2 yrs later at the end of 2003. Endo finally tested TSI which were low, meaning remission, but TPO which work to destroy the thyroid gland were 958. It only helped my dr to realize that my testing was definately hypo, not hyper at that time. The TSH that day were 3.17 which does NOT work for me anymore since finding out I have autoimmune thyroid disease. The FreeT3 and FreeT4 were at the low end of the range, which I also can't tolerate if I'm going to be a functioning person. If you are dosed by TSH while on any thyroid medication, it's not going to help you feel very good. FreeT3 and FreeT4 in the upper 1/3 range is where I've found lots of people feel best. That was a constant while being treated for hyperT, or now for the hypoT that I definately am. Sandye~Houston
