From: Salmon Egg on 27 Feb 2007 02:04 I used a lot of Zantec. As a consequence, I got a gret reduction in platelet count. That is what a hematologist said. When I next had some serious heartburn, I went to my regular physician. I had told him previously about the thrombocytopenia. He gave me some Nexium. While it took care of the heartburn, the information with it indicated that it also can reduce platelet count. I don't think that that side effect is common. I also think that it is not widely known by physicians. What experiences have readers of this group had with respect to thrombocytopenia? Bill -- Fermez le Bush--about two years to go.
From: Vanny on 27 Feb 2007 04:02 My platelet count is fine, but I am only on a maintenance dose of 20 mg Protonix (aka Pantoprazole). Higher doses lead to joint pains. I have had to implement strict lifestyle changes in order to keep the medications dosage low. Basically if you have moderate to severe GERD then the medication alone is not going to eliminate all of the symptoms. I suggest that you look at your lifestyle and see what you can change to make it possible to lower the PPIs to prevent what is happening to you.
