From: Andrew on 30 Dec 2007 08:20 First of all I like to say I am not in the medical profession in any way. But have had IBS type D+ for a number of years & most probably have chronic pancreaitus as well. This is only for those people who have IBS type D and talk to you doctor first. This I find helps my symptoms. After my 5th Bowel Motion (BM) in 2 hours I usually take 2 Crampeze ( from Woolworth's) if motions are normal consistency. If they are loose or liquid I take 2 Imodium Advanced (from Chemist) instead. If I have another 5 Bowel motions in the next 2 hours I take 2 Buscopan.(from Chemist) If they are loose or liquid I take 2 Imodium Advanced instead. In the next 2 hrs if I have another 5 Bowel Motions I take 2 Buscopan. In the next 2 hrs if I am still going I go to see a Doctor. If there is blackness or blood in motions immediately see a doctor. Also I have a large glass of water after each BM under doctor's orders, stops dehydration. ( unfortunately I perspire a great deal during BM's, even if loose) not to mention loss of fluid from BM's. I am also taking Creon Forte under prescription. On good days I never make 5 BM's but I have been known to go over 20 per day. The only time in my life I had constipation was after a Barium Meal. ( a medical test )
From: Kaptain Poo Buhm on 30 Dec 2007 19:50 I once took a similar approach to my IBS-D. The things you listed are the classic "functional disorder" remedies. I still use them but not very often. Try this: take a course of antacids containing ranidine (eg Zantec) just one course at the highest dosage, run the experiment for two weeks. If you're already on ranidine, ask your doctor to prescribe esomeprazole (eg Nexium). If there's a positive effect on your condition, report back here.
