From: Victor S. Miller on 23 Apr 2008 20:20 I just got a new FF mask - Resmed Ultra Mirage. After a few nights where it didn't work so well, I'm now sleeping through the night with it. However, when I wake up in the morning (and this is much the same as when I used the F&P 431 FF mask), I feel about the same way that I feel if I'm suddenly awakened from a very deep sleep -- slightly confused and very groggy. The problem is, that this last all day! As tired as I felt in ordinary (i.e. without CPAP) sleep, I feel twice as tired and groggy after using CPAP. Has anyone encountered this? If so, what do you think causes it? Could my pressure be set wrong? I used the F&P 431 for over 6 months, and I never felt any better. I stopped using it because the mask ended up being painful and leaving deep red marks on the bridge of my nose and on my lower face, which took many hours to go away. Victor

Kate, Thanks for the response. However, I was sleeping through the night with my F&P mask from last March through last November, and I was feeling groggier and groggier (besides the painful red marks). Finally, in disgust, I stopped sleeping with CPAP, and my sleep was much more restful -- I actually felt less tired in the morning (though still plenty tired). I know that everybody says "hang in there", but 8 months seems like an awfully long time to feel LESS rested and groggier. Unfortunately, since January I've had a shoulder problem (which turned out to be a torn rotator cuff) which has been badly affecting my sleep. About two weeks ago I went back to the sleep center to get a new mask (since I decided that the F&P mask was probably due for changing anyway, since it was over a year old), which I did. I thought that perhaps my sleep apnea was aggravating the shoulder pain. But now with sleeping with my mask I'm back to feeling worse again. Victor

The question I have is, why does this matter? Who are you impressing with your facial appearance when you first awake? Do those opinions ACTUALLY affect your daily presence in life? I too, awake with marks on my face, using a Resmed or Resperonics FF mask. I couldn't care less about the marks because I'm old enough to realize that I'm done trying to impress people. I don't care what people think about me personally, or my marks, from a FF mask! Tomorrow, the sun rises with or WITHOUT these people around me, so SCREW 'EM! I still have to go to work tomorrow morning, and the bottom line is - I'm there to do my job, which iS *NOT* a model!!!!!! And to further enforce my feelings, if this post offends YOU, by me being blunt, I DON'T CARE! Honestly, I REALLY couldn't care less! Things like this don't really matter when you get past a certain age! Maybe it's time for YOU to grow up. Because the bottom line question remains - "Are YOU sleeping better with, than without?" Sleep is YOUR personal sanctuary! And you don't have to look good to relish it!!!!
From: Victor S. Miller on 24 Apr 2008 00:26 Gary, Besides the fact that the marks are red, they are also painful. Even if I didn't care how I look, I do care about pain. Victor
