To help out my memory, I selected a username I use elsewhere. Paypal rejected it as invalid. I double-checked with their published rules and it looked fine to me. So I went through their 'contact' process to ask why my username was invalid, up to the point where I had to login with my username and password. It seemed to me that if their techies couldn't be bothered to offer support to people who were trying to sign up for an account, I couldn't really expect any better if I hit problems after I was signed up.
