From: Pit Bull on 16 Nov 2006 02:55 Tonight I am enduring yet another example of just how little the medical community knows about tourettes. This afternoon I had to have an ingrown toenail removed from my left foot. The doctor gave me Balacet as a pain killer. He said it was a derivative of Demerol. I had told him that Demerol is the ONLY pain killer that has ever given me any relief in severe pain situations. I took one at 9 p.m. and again at 11:45. It's now 1:30 a.m. and it's as if I never took anything at all. I am in incredible pain as I write this. I am writing this to try to distract myself from the pain but it's getting harder and harder just to sit-up and type. My doctor knows that touretters have a far higher sensitivity to pain than the average person but he is still unsure of what to do for me. That's why I say that doctors still do not know how to treat someone with tourettes in certain situations. I have to go. I can't even sit-up to type anymore. Mark

Personally, I have a higher tolerance to pain, as do some of my TS friends. Did you call whatever doc was on call and ask what you might take to augment the Balacet? Jo

There is also something that can be used for sensitive teeth. it may releive a little pain if applied to your toe. Then there is the 50 calibur bullit. I have a bunch of these that I use for my black powder rifle. You can bite on one in case the pain gets really bad ;-) :-(

Mark Balacet is Darvocet-N without quite as much acetaminophen (Tylenol). It is approved for mild to moderate pain. Darvocet is in my experience not terribly potent, although some peo[ple get good relief from it. |
